Visualization, Simulation, and Interaction - Virtual Reality II
Introduction:
Virtual Reality cannot only be used for a 3D-visualization of objects, but also offers a large application field even for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). A typical application field here is a net-based collaboration, based on the digital product and on the support by virtual reality. In addition to virtual objects, also video and audio of the users have to be transferred, combined with ways how to interact with digital data. Here, the huge field of human-computer interfaces (HCI) becomes important. In addition, augmented reality systems offer further support for business processes.

Contents:
Introduction of Virtual Reality and its definition; Basics of Augmented Reality; Interaction with digital data; Basics of simulation; Compression of image- and video data; Compression of audio data; New materials for addressing force feedback devices; Data security; Introduction into cryptography; Definition of geometry for free-form surfaces; Digital factory; New research fields in Virtual Reality.
Teaching Goals:
The students get an introduction into the possibilities and changes of using Virtual Reality in business processes but also into existing problems in technology as well as in realization in industry. Since the lecture VR I gave an introduction of the VR basics, now more detailed information is given on hardware, software and application. This is on one hand a technical background on existing VR-installations, but on the other hand also further information on how virtual environments are realized in the computer and transferred over the network. By a mixture of hardware, software and application the students do not only achieve the technological knowledge, but also see how virtual reality can be integrated into business processes. The lecture closes with an overview on Virtual Reality as a research field and gives an insight into currently running research.
